My Thoughts On: Immigration

Before I start this post, I have to first say, Dad if you are reading this, stop.  Let's just pretend we both agree and don't taint your opinion of me with further reading of this blog.  And thanks for helping me with the lawnmower tire!!

Okay, now onto my thoughts.  What sparked my idea to post about this now is that my husband got this survey to fill out for the republican party in the mail today.  It was asking about all the things that the Obama administration has "done wrong" and what he thinks the priorities should be for the Republican party in terms of 2010 elections.

One of the biggest things they talked about was immigration laws.  I just don't get it.  I know, I know, there's not enough resources or room for people to come to the United States.  But aren't we all immigrants?  Didn't we murder Native Americans and steal their land so that we can settle here?  We came from Europe, we came from Asia, Africa, etc. at different points in time in order to try to make a living in this new world.  (Of course the Africans didn't have much of a choice.)  So, why was it okay for our ancestors, but not Mexicans?  Why would we want to see fellow human beings, children, women living in huts with dirt floors, no ceilings, no plumbing?  Everyone deserves a chance at a better life.

So you're saying, "but they steal our resources!"  Well, Americans are living off the teat of the government at well.  Have you ever heard the term "Welfare Queen?"  I'm not saying welfare is bad, I'm just saying there are a lot of deadbeats who take advantage of it.

And our jobs?  Yeah, they work for cheap wages, but would you break your back at their jobs for their pay?  No!  Cause as Americans, some of us have become lazy and just expect the cash to flow in, never having broken a nail working in our lives.  There's a Mexican restaurant and a Chinese restaurant in our town that I am speaking of:  the same people are there working open to close and in most cases, these are owners.  They work ALL DAY EVERY DAY.  How many Americans are willing to do this for as little money as they are making.

I think this is getting long enough, so I will stop.  I'd like to see everything work out for the best because we were all immigrants at one point in time.  Or I guess the Mexicans can just start doing to the Americans what we did to the Native Americans... they can kill us and steal our land.

My Thoughts On: Lady GaGa

I've been meaning to post this for quite awhile, but yeah, I'm pretty behind... but I am a big Lady GaGa fan- I love her imagination, her voice and the fact that she's not afraid to be different. There's been these stupid rumors about her being a man... which don't even deserved to be addressed.

Anyway, she was interviewed as one of Barbara Walter's 10 most fascinating people of 2009 and it was a good interview. She was playing in clubs at 18 and had long brown hair and looked like a totally normal person... and apparently her dad is not thrilled with her lack of clothing and naughtiness in her videos- understandably. Anyway, she actually seems pretty down to earth and I thought I'd share her VMA performance because I thought it was GREAT! Very artsy and memorable. I think she was trying to show that people in show biz sometimes have to give their lives in order to get away from the media that hounds them... but anyway, enjoy!

My Thoughts On: Jon & Kate Plus 8

Because I know you guys really care about what I think about this topic and because it is mommy related and in pop culture right now, I've decided to throw my hat full of two cents into the ring.

I have mixed feelings about who I blame for the dissolution of this marriage. My first instinct was to blame Kate because from watching clips of her on the couch, she seems like a total B. She's always putting Jon down and belittling him in front of the whole world. And if there's one thing a dude hates, it's being embarrassed.

Then there's the side of me that wants to blame Jon. One, cause he's a guy... and they are usually wrong. But, as my friend Crystal pointed out, you try being a stay at home mom to eight kids and try to be in a good mood all the time. I say amen to that, sister! I didn't think about it that way. For years, Kate was a stay at home mom...to... EIGHT... kids. I only have two and contemplate blowing my brains out every five minutes. And if snapping at people is all I do, then they need to consider themselves lucky!

So, now I'm riding the fence. Do I like Kate? No. I can't like anyone that takes picture of her children's poop. That's right. I attempted to watch ONE episode like the first season and it happened to be when she was potty training the kids and she literally took pictures of their poop. I quickly turned the channel and emptied the contents of my stomach. I'm sorry if you take pictures of your kids' poop cause I probably just totally alienated you, but... it's so wrong it hurts.

And do I like Jon? No. First being that he's kinda ugly. And that bothers me. Second reason being that I don't like guys that cheat. Whether he's cheating or not, I don't know for absolute certain, but running around with another chick when your wife is not there is not okay in my book. That is humiliating to her and so disrespectful.

So my conclusion? Take their 8 kids plus the Octomom's 14 kids and give them to Angelina Jolie. Everyone's a winner!

My Thoughts On: Dust

Dust is stupid. Why do we have dust? Okay, don't answer that, cause I do know.

I actually enjoy doing laundry. I enjoy vacuuming, I enjoy the smell of bleach and the feeling of an extremely clean room. I may be a freak like that, but hey, you gotta love the small things in life!

But I will NOT dust. I'll wash the curtains that get dusty. I wash my bedding all the time, so no dust there.

You will NOT catch me with a dust rag or a swiffer.

Want to know why? Cause it's never ending! You dust today, it's dusty tomorrow. Dust is like a veil of dirty that covers everything you own, but will not stay away. And since I currently live in a cruddy old farmhouse, dust comes in every crack and crevice imaginable. Also, I'm allergic to dust and just washing the curtains will give me a 3 day sinus infection. This is part of the reason for my mini blind rampage in which I decided to burn them all as they are nothing but dust magnets.

And now that I have you thoroughly disgusted thinking about how dusty my house is, let me quasi assuage your fears. My house DOES get dusted from time to time, just not by me. Luckily I married a clean freak who actually enjoys dusting. When they invented Swiffer, he developed a crush and it's his favorite cleaning product. He also uses the WetJet on the hard wood floors. If he wants to clean, who am I to get in the way?

What are your thoughts on dust? Do you despise it as much as I do?

My Thoughts On: Monogamy

As you know, I'm a free thinker. I don't expect to have hoards of people who agree with me, and I definitely don't think I'll find too many with this one, but it would be great to be pleasantly surprised!

People always talk about how penguins and humans are notoriously known for being monogamous. I DO NOT think that humans are meant to be monogamous, I just think that because we have high levels of thought function, we have convinced ourselves as a society that we are supposed to be monogamous. People use the words "soulmate" and "love of my life" to describe "the one." I think this is bunk!

I believe in compatibility. You could "fall in love" with a lot of people, if you find people that are compatible with you and you are in the mindset that you're available.

But, there's a huge flaw in the monogamy theory. Two words: adultery & divorce. That gives me an inkling that human beings are not meant to be monogamous. How many people stay in a miserable marriage for years (or life) just because they think that they are "in love" with the person they are with or that the Bible doesn't go for divorce. I'm pretty sure that Jesus didn't die for our sins so that people could blame him for the reason they are staying in a miserable marriage.

Okay, so just because I don't believe that monogamy is really meant to be part of the human condition, that does not mean that there should be promiscuity running rampant in society. That would be what separates us from the monkeys. We should have the intelligence not to put disease and ickiness out there.

So, if you're in a beautifully, wonderful, fun filled, happy, monogamous relationship, more power to you! It's a rarity! But, if you think like me and realize that life's about compatibility and that some people change and are not compatible for ever, then kudos to your free thinking attitude!

What do you guys think about this? Anyone think I'm stupid and want to yell at me? Anyone want to marry me cause they love my attitude (sorry, I'm not biting!) Tell me what you think!

POST ADD:

I wanted to point out because I realized it might sound like I condone cheating. I totally don't! Cheating on someone is the ultimate form of disrespect. That's why if you realize that monogamy is unrealistic, you don't tell someone you're committed to them if you're not.

My Thoughts On: Legalizing Marijuana

Yes, you read that right! This blog is about my thoughts on the legalization of marijuana. And chalk this also up to an idea to send to Barack on helping solve the national debt. Which, if I might start by a tangent, my husband and I were talking about. Barack should create a website where citizens can come and discuss their ideas for solving the economic crisis or things of that nature. Because what if someone has a great idea?

Anyway, so here's my thoughts on pot. I am one of those goody goody people who has never tried an illegal drug in their life. But, I don't judge people that have. I just think that legalizing marijuana would solve some problems. First of all, from the research I've done and people I've spoken to, it seems like in a lot of instances, alcohol consumption is more harmful than marijuana usage. (In moderation, like everything.)

The government could make some great money off of taxing marijuana, just like they do with tobacco products. And to further their money making abilities, why not have the government start the first marijuana grow farms? Then, we can use that money towards the national debt.

But, when you regulate the sale of marijuana, not only can you tax it, but make it safer. As aforementioned, I have nothing to gain by this being legalized, but I just think it is the smart thing to do. And everyone says that pot is a gateway drug, but isn't alcohol? And I think that the people who are willing to try the hard stuff would do it anyway, regardless of whether they smoked pot first or not.

Okay, well those are my thoughts. I'm sure I'm going to catch a lot of flack for this, but hey, that's the great thing about it being a free country! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I respect that!

My Thoughts On: The Economy

I know that it is taboo to talk religion and politics, but I've been talking about the economy a lot lately because everyday there seems to be more and more bad news.

Obama is an historic president already because he is the first black president in our country's history. I think that if he can manage to fix our economy, he may become as symbolic as Abraham Lincoln because fixing the economy is going to take some MAJOR action and seems like a very daunting task!

I have no solutions. I mean, think about it... the cost of everything has skyrocketed. Therefore businesses are paying more for supplies, but also paying more for wages/benefits as the costs go up. Their profit is quickly dwindling and their only choice is to close down, outsource or lay people off. My husband is a current example of this. He worked for an electrical supply company. They've been in business for 65 years and had never laid anyone off- until now... he was one of the people laid off. There are 3 companies like this in our town and one of the other ones just closed.

There are a couple ways that I think the government COULD save money, but don't know how much it would save. Such as, letting people sign up for email instead of postal mail on some notification letters. And I'm all for Medicaid as children deserve good health care, but did you know that medicaid in some states WILL NOT allow generic prescriptions?! WHAT?! They will pay $120 for the name brand when the pharmacy has a $4 generic. I don't understand this. Think of the money that could be saved if medicaid allowed generics.

Anyway, I pray that for the 4.8 million jobless Americans that some good news happens soon. America is supposed to be the place where other countries look to for an example. Right now we have our head bowed and our tail tucked between our legs. Hopefully Obama can slap a saddle on this puppy and ride it into success!
