I can smell the end!

My final day of class/work this semester is May 13!  I'm so excited I can barely contain myself.  And of course I have spring fever and don't want to be there.  I was planning on getting a job over the summer, but I can't do it.  I need a break.  I plan to make money here and there while I can (I might tutor people on how to use ebay or something) but I just am so ready to relax.  I am looking forward to spending a lot of time outside, hanging with friends, rollerskating, bike riding, walks... ah, yes, heaven!

So, once again I have to apologize on my lack of original posts, but coming after May 13, you're gonna get sick of me!

What in the world, Immune System?!

So it's summer... and I have a "cold." I put it in quotations because I actually think it's a sinus infection, but have lost my little badge that says MD, so I can't say for sure.

But it's ridiculous! Who gets this in the summer? I must have one of the worst immune systems, because I catch EVERYTHING. If my kids have it, I'll get it. If my husband brings it home, I get it. (That sounded bad, but I'm not referring to STDs.) So, my kids seemed to have a bit of the sniffles a couple weeks ago and sure enough, I got it. But then it turned into a full blown infection! I tried taking Nyquil one evening and it knocked me out and rendered me useless for TWO DAYS. I can't take antihistamines for the same reason.

Then there's the sweating. It was actually quite mild weather-wise this past week, but I had the air conditioning on full blast while my family was bundled up under blankets. And I was STILL sweating! Thankfully my husband allowed me to nap frequently, but I've been going to bed around 8pm and sleeping all night, yet it still lingers.

I'm sure you're saying, "go to the doctor!" Don't try to reason with me!

Anyway, now that I've ranted about this and sufficiently grossed people out, I just wanted to conclude by saying my main reason for posting this was to let you know why I haven't been blogging a lot lately and why I might be slacking a bit in the days to come. Otherwise, things are going great despite the fact that I have NO BABYSITTERS and NO DAYCARE for the month of July... how will I cope?!

Homicide and Heat

I hate heat- HATE IT! It is not unusual to get 100 degree weather where I live during the summer. But what I hate so much about the heat her is the humidity. It's not just hot, it's hot and HUMID! So, just walking out the door feels like you're in a sauna. It's disgusting. The smells of swampiness coming from the mud in my neighbor's yard, the fast growth of mold, everything about this weather makes me cringe and want to hibernate. And of course, living in this old farmhouse, there's no central air. I... crave... central... air...

Yes, when it's cold, it stinks. But when it's cold, you can bundle up. You can put on nice cozy warm fuzzy blankets and be good. But when it's hot... you can't get more than naked! You can be sitting completely naked and STILL sweat! Oy!

It is in that token, that I was thinking the other day that I wondered how many people have murdered someone because they were driven crazy by the heat. Heat makes me angry. I unfortunately have to admit that if I'm hot and can't get away from it, you should probably run from me... and run far. I am NOT a pleasant person to be around. I pity my kids and I try to focus and not be overly irritable, but I'm no saint. I can totally see myself snapping. (Although thankfully we bought yet another window a/c yesterday, so the living room is about 5 degrees cooler.)

But, it made me think about how often I get into a homicidal rage because I'm hot. Do you think anyone has ever successfully used it as a psyche defense in court? I might have to research this one...
