Review: Caillou Talking Doll

Caillou and Super Why! are two PBS series that have been popular in my house for years.  And I, of course, prefer when my kids watch educational shows over non-sense shows that just teach them how to be vulgar.  The only downfall to my kids enjoying these PBS shows is that it is hard to come by any merchandise.  Well, guess what-- that has changed!  As of April 1st,  there is a new doll out that features Caillou in a school uniform and ready to help your child learn! It is a good size, 14 inches, which makes it more lifelike and fun for your toddler or preschooler.  Plus, it actually says a lot more than most talking dolls, including educational interactions, French words, and interrogatory banter.

MSRP: $34.99
My toddler, H, tore into the box as soon as it came to the house.  He was happy just to see it was a doll, he took the hat off and played with it, took the backpack off, stuffed things in it, hugged the doll, sat him on the couch... but then when he realized it talked-- his excitement boiled over and he just kept laughing and laughing.  It was adorable.  So, it's educational, it is a character he likes, and it provides him with plenty of entertainment, what more could you want in a toy??

"Caillou, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2015, is an award-winning brand that began as book series created by Christine L’Heureux and published by Chouette Publishing.  Caillou is about an inquisitive four year old whose unique way of relating to the world has charmed generations of preschoolers who connect with how he plays, learns and lives. Caillou has consistently ranked as one of the top 10 television series for preschoolers nationwide since its premiere in 2000. “Caillou,” the animated preschool series, airs in the U.S. on PBS Kids, the #1 preschool destination for kids and parents, on PBS Sprout and in several major international territories, including Australia, Canada and others.  Caillou has won multiple awards, including two Parent’s Choice Awards, in consecutive years.

Caillou exhibits a familiar sensibility and behaviors that parents of preschoolers can relate to.  Caillou is a curious child who loves to discover the world around him through everyday experiences.  He embellishes everything he sees with his rich imagination.  Surrounded by his parents, his younger sister Rosie, his grandparents and peers his age, Caillou is fascinated by everything around him.  Whether he’s at home, at school or on the playground, Caillou finds opportunities to learn and grow.  The series teaches life lessons that address fear, anger, consequences, loneliness, anxiety and empathy to help children understand those emotions.

Caillou apparel, books, home video and other merchandise are sold online and in mass and specialty retail stores nationwide."-- via promotional material.
