Geek Charming DVD Review

I actually watched this movie with my daughter when it originally aired on Disney- I had seen commercials for it and thought it looked cute.

Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations.  Despite my love for Modern Family, Sarah Hyland couldn't pull off a lead role.  I'm not sure if having a different cast might have made the movie better, but it couldn't have hurt.

Sarah plays Dylan, your typical queen bee who wants to (and for the most part does) rule the school.  On the surface, she's all the fake, quasi-evil, diva that you expect from popular teenage girls in high school.  Josh is making a documentary on the sub-culture of the popular group.  He wants Dylan to be in it, but it isn't until he rescues something "very important" to her that she decides to go ahead with it.  She is also running for Blossom Queen and she has some pretty stiff competition, so she hopes the documentary helps make her the ideal candidate.

Of course as the documentary progresses, Josh begins to realize that Dylan actually has something under that annoying, rude, diva exterior that he begins to like.

As I mentioned, I was disappointed in the movie.  Sure, for a tweener mentality, it might be a good one, but I thought it was corny and beyond cliche and my daughter lost interest after half an hour.

Family Time Factor:  More likely to be enjoyed by females and I'm guessing would be most popular for ages 8-15.

MOTR Grade: C-

Geek Charming is available on DVD February 7th!!!
