Dexter The Second Season Blu-Ray Review

On May 5th, Dexter The Second Season was released on Blu-Ray. Ah, lovely blu-ray. The ability to watch a show about a serial killer will forever be enhanced by seeing blood in delightful HD.

If you've never seen Dexter, it is a doozy! It's about a man (um, Dexter) who is a serial killer, but one that is under the radar. He lives in Florida in an area where apparently not only are many crimes not solved, but it's not a big deal to have people disappear on a regular basis.

Dexter (Michael C. Hall) was adopted by a police officer and his wife as a child. His dad realized at a young age that there was something different about Dexter and pretty much trained him to channel his homicidal tendencies into a "good thing" by only killing criminals or people that did not get their just desserts.

The kicker is that Dexter works as a blood splatter analysis person for the police department. His sister is also a detective there. Crazy? Yes!

In season two, things get a little difficult when some of Dexter's activities start showing up on the radar. He has to be extra careful both outwardly and at his "evening job." Also, there's Dexter's weird relationship with his girlfriend as he does not have the same emotions and feelings as non homicidal people, but uses his girlfriend as a safe front to make himself appear more normal.

As aforementioned, seeing Dexter in blu-ray only enhances the cool factor of the show! The scenery on the locales is so much more realistic as are the corpses themselves... and who doesn't love realistic corpses, haha?

I think this show is very cleverly written and thought out. The plot is extremely unique, but at times, I thought the episodes got a bit monotonous. I think it spiced up more the second season, but at times it fails to hold my interest.

Family Time Factor
: Definitely a teenagers and up kind of show. But, if you are like me and don't think gore is really that big of a deal, it could broaden the age spectrum.

MOTR Grade: B+

Dexter The Second Season is now available on DVD and Blu-Ray!!!

Blu-Ray Specs: 1080p High Definition/English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD/Spanish 5.1 Dolby TrueHD/English SDH subtitles

  1. B+? Dexter is probably my favorite show on TV right now, but it saddens me there are so few a season.

Michael C. Hall is wonderful, I love the story and the writing. Good stuff.

I need to step up into a Blu-ray player someday, but probably not until the disc prices are the same as DVD.

  2. I LOVE Dexter. Do you know the chick who plays his sister just married him. Kind of weird to think of when I watch the show.
